1 in 136

1 in every 136 Americans was behind bars last year, according to a cheery article in SF Gate today.

Wow.

What does one say to that?

"It's not a sign of a healthy community when we've come to use incarceration at such rates," said one guy in charge of a program that supports alternatives to prison.

Yeah. That's an understatement.

I'm sure that conservative airways will manage to somehow blame this "destruction of moral fabric" on Clinton, gay marriage and Hollywood. After all, its not like you see too many rich, "morally-light" people make it to jail.

Seriously though. This is depressing. The minute Bush got elected I really should have bought some stocks in companies belonging to the "Republican Axis of Profits",
e.g.
* Oil companies
* The military industrial complex
...and still far behind, but catching up quickly...
* the Prison Industrial Complex

Who would Jesus invest in???
