why my teeth are rotting out
I got up at 4am today so that I could get to the hospital early enough to round on all of my patients. Since i've been fighting some viral thing and sleeping only 3-5 hours a night, I was exhausted. I washed my face, dressed in slacks and a sweater, drank some Airborne, and lay down on the couch to take a little nap. At 5:45, I opened my eyes again, forced myself to get up, packed two diet cokes, a powerbar and a can of Ensure, and - cold Dr. Pepper in hand for the 15 minute drive to the VA- walked out my door. By 8am, I was on my first Diet Coke. At lunch, I bought the Beef Brisket meal (it was actually really good), which included a medium diet coke. By the early afternoon, I had eaten both the powerbar and the old lady nutrition drink, and was sipping on my last diet coke. Panic soon began to seep in that I had exhausted my supplies, and I still had a few hours of H&P writing to do. Fortunately, the buzz kept me going until I got to the coffee shop at 8pm, and bought a Chai tea to help nurse me through two more hours of studying. I write all this just in case my dentist happens to stumble upon my blog just as he is wondering why I never returned his call yesterday about my overdue checkup and cleaning.

Is diet coke bad for our teeth too? I'm starting to look like an English chap, but I figured sugarless=golden, no? Maybe the carbonation ain't so hot? =D
I'm over 9 months out from my last cleaning. Hell, I may not get one anytime soon since we now have new coverage and I have to find a new dentist yet again. Maybe I'll have to start calling to find one to see over xmas break. In the meantime, I recommend an electric toothbrush and sugar-free gum. Let your sodas get warmish so they don't aggravte the new cavities too much with the cold.
