Do you like smoked fish?
Lots of salt on your food?
Any type of meat or fish jerky?
Pickles of any types?
Do you forget to eat vegetables for weeks at a time?
Does the only "fresh fruit" you eat come in the form of orange juice?
Then you have my diet ...and you are a prime candidate for stomach cancer.
We just learned that the reason that rates of stomach cancer are so much higher in Japan, Finland and Iceland is due to their high diet of nitrites and amines from eating smoked and preserved food. Stomach cancer is hard to detect early, so it usually presents at a point where treatment is not possible. (Japan has very aggressive endoscopic screening regiments for all its citizens for this very reason.)
Anyway, this is shocking and heartbreaking news. I though I could live off of smoked salmon and capers for the rest of my life.

LOL, isn't it ironic that going to medical school to learn how to help people be healthy forces us to adopt some of the unhealthiest lifestyles possible? I can't remember the last time I ate vegetables two days in a row that did not involve iceberg lettuce on some sort of high-salt prepared food option.
