The "Momentous Battle" for the Supreme Court is on. This is the one everyone with half a finger in politics has been waiting for; and the one that the rest of the country has been lulled into forgetting about. If Alito is put on the court, significant changes to our civil, reproductive and democratic rights will be made.
Apparently, Congress is ready for the fight, but they need our support. A few loud people on the religious right threw a tantrum about Miers and won. Alito actually has credentials for his job, he just happens to be a conservative radical. The debate over this nomination will be purely on ideological terms. If our Senators are willing to oppose this candidate, they need our support.
There are many places collecting signatures. Two important ones are moveon.org and People For the Amerian Way, which is an organization set up around putting moderate judges on the courts. Here are links:

Also, if you can afford, it, these and other organizations need financial support right now more than ever.
More importantly, this is one of those political battles, like the war in iraq, that we need to get out on the streets about, so keep an eye out for rallies and marches to come.
