"Vacation" week 1

School ended Friday and I am not starting my next rotation until the last days of July. That gives me a 6 week break to forget everything I learned this year. However, it's not really a vacation as I will be spending the next 3 weeks studying for the second USMLE boards examination. Woohoo.

So far, though, it's going well. Saturday consisted of very good all-you-can-eat sushi with friends, followed by chill movie night where we watched the gayest -literally- movie I have ever seen. I had no problem staring at gorgeous, well dressed, well-toned men for two hours - and no, it wasn't porn.

Sunday, was Father's day with the family - a good, solid reminder about why I continue to insist on staying near the Bay Area. The weather was perfect, the food was delicious, the wine flowed liberally and we had a great time together.

On Monday, I launched into study mode. Due to my completely obliterated attention span (if I ever really had one), I've decided to center my studying around USMLE world, an online question bank. I do the questions, read over all the explanations, and repeat. It makes for a more active learning day, and so far, so good. Given that the test is still pretty far away, I am not feeling the stress of it yet and trying to stay on the rise > run aspect of the learning curve.

In between all that, I try to take time to play. Yesterday, it was an evening with my sister and her husband in SF. We played on their Wii, hiked in Ford Funston (ah, the ocean), had sushi and saw a new amazing anime film. It was my first anime movie and I was more than impressed. If you haven't heard of Paprika yet, see the trailer here.

So between family time, lots of sushi, movies and playing on the Wii (yes, I want one badly) things are not too shabby. To all you premeds out there: See, med school is a piece of cake! Come on in, join the party.
