Soooo.... I haven't written in a while. And since I just had a conversation with someone else about how you 'just can't go back' when it comes to missing blog entries, I'll just write a quick summary.
I passed Winter Quarter, which really means that I've been initiated into medical school. No more delusions about "sleeping in" every weekend, or staying on top of climbing, or in any way keeping my life balanced. I've learned that sleep can be made up in spurts - usually every three or four days of 3-4 hours a night can be smoothed out with one night of a solid 6 hours of sleep. 6 hours of sleep has never felt so good! I've also learned that I can make it in med school, and that I still love what I'm learning when I have that rare moment to take in the big picture.
In the meantime, I've become one of the six co-directors of Joan Viteri Memorial Clinic. This is a free clinic run out of a van for people who have almost no access to any other healthcare, both due to economic and social reasons. I'll write more about it later this week, but here's our website: http://cim.ucdavis.edu/clinics/joan/
(There are even a few clips there from news coverage of a recent clinic day when we took our van out to a different neighborhood.)
Spring break was wonderful, but too short. I caught up with a lot of friends and family, but didn't get a chance to see everyone I wanted to see, which made me a little frustrated with how crazy my life has gotten. There aren't any longer breaks in my future, so I guess I need to learn to time manage a bit better...
Wow, there's so much I'd like to write about, but it's not really possible right now. I'll focus on keeping this thing up to date for now.
So, today was day one of Spring Quarter. The first half of this quarter, we have Neuroanatomy, Endocrinology and Homeostasis, Immunology (yay!), Human Reproduction and Genetics, and more "Doctoring". All these classes sound interesting, but I'm feeling that the biggest challenge will be trying to juggle them appropriately and still keep my place in each one. This week, I'm also going to a three day International Health Conference in San Francisco, which will make the juggling experience even more entertaining. But I really can't complain...
